Kamil International University (KIU) is a nonprofit and private institution. It was officially established in Baidoa, Somalia, in 2023 by a group of Somali scholars and Intellectuals.
The main drive of founding KIU is to fill the existing gap (of quality) in the higher education system in Southwest State and overall Somalia by providing a high quality higher education of international standard.
The pioneers and the ideal personnel of this great and fruitful institution were youthful professorswith diverse educational background including but not limited to Engineers and Doctors who possessed their credential from high ranking universities at home country and abroad overseas.
The aftermath of Somalia’s long running conflicts which lasted more than two decades have destroyed the country’s Asset including education infrastructures throughout the country. These prolonged civil conflicts in Somalia have fostered a lost generation who has no experience of a kind of effective government and poor access to basic social services particularly education and employment opportunities, which cause Somalia to be in the last position in the world’s ranking in terms of education.
Research conducted in Somalia have indicated that every ten school-going children only four have got to good education as the focus of these research is of children aged between 8-15years, the school going ratio is much lower at southwest region of Somalia where some of its areas have no even elementary education at all.
Bearing in mind to the down fall of state education system and health sector, in its respond the youth from this region have recognized that there is a need for health system and education, these created the necessity to uplift the quality of our  generation to help them transform and the society in the hopelessness of education and health in the region, which needs quick intervention
Thus, we step in which intention of overcoming the above stated situation, in regard we decided to establish/unwrap Kamil International University to provide a quality education.
Thanks to Almighty Allah on 28th March 2023, we officially inaugurated the long awaited Kamil International University with full support from the intellectuals; the regional administration, the local Authority, traditional elders, religion leaders and the community at largefrom southwest and overall Somalia.
